What Do We Do Now?
IT STARTS WITH YOU
Q: WHAT DO WE DO NOW?
A: In the midst of global and national anguished intensity that only seems to be bubbling over by the day, some of us ask ourselves, “What can I do?” Whether your personal channel of attention is following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the recent mass shooting in Uvalde, Icelandic glaciers falling into the ocean, the Heard/Depp trial, or you are attempting to stay a social 6ft of distance from the headlines; the word is out, we can no longer avoid our responsibility of civic duty.
What does this mean? What is your role as a civilian these days? What can you do while living in a nation where 19 innocent children are slaughtered by a maddened youth soured to death in his own hate? What is your personal responsibility? These questions are tough and important. I admire my mother and so many like her that do not give up on humanity. Her hope reaches far and wide as an optimist in the darkest of moments. I appreciate how one of my friends feels the rush of the healing potential that rides on the waves of such terrorizing circumstances. How we’ve gone so low that seemingly, now, we can only go up as a society.
A SELF-IMPORTANT NATION
And maybe my attitude is less popular, whereas they both see hope, I see a reality of ignorance only strengthening in momentum. The darkness seeping out from the hidden agendas of politicians and propaganda to ensure a self-important nation…This is America. What I see is that we have come too far. We should not be here, swimming in humiliating statistics of murders while continuously acting as if we are a nation of virtue. Innocent men, women, and children are being killed and sacrificed due to ignorance. There is an epidemic of “ignoring and diverting” away from any sort of inner compass of a higher morality.
Yet I do not lose my faith. And my inner compass points me to self-inquiry. Can I accept the current state of the world and see that what is occurring outside of myself is a reflection of the unconscious realms existing on the inside? When I ask about what I can do, I immediately understand that I can work more diligently to transform my mind. I can align with choices that consider my world as a whole. Can I be more conscientious? Can I be kinder? More gentle? More aware and inclusive? Can I rise to challenges with more grace? Can I give of myself more? Can I take more rest when I need it? Can I attend to the defects of my own psyche and heal? I have to start somewhere and my bet is, that if we all started cleaning up our own inner world, we would share a different external world.
Start in your own backyard. This used to be the tagline for the environmental movement. And there is so much wisdom in this statement. Clearly, we have to…As friends, parents, teachers, sons, daughters, lovers, and co-workers.
NEW MOON IN GEMINI
On this new moon in Gemini, potent, stark, and blazing with power, Jupiter is also conjunct Mars. There will be a lot more energy in these next few weeks and an opportunity to channel inner aggression into constructive action. Courage is in the air which can add initiative and strength if wielded consciously. Mercury goes direct on June 3rd gaining momentum, giving you lift beneath your wings and your personal mission. Before taking flight, I ask you to consider your part in making this world a better place and to ask yourself, “Who am I Being?”
Thank you, I love you, and I appreciate your service in the world.
