What Is Your Perspective?
GAINING NEW PERSPECTIVE
Q: What Is Your Perspective?
A: Perspective is King. I’ve heard this title given to cash, yet I believe that perspective takes the crown. We do live in a materialistic world where many seek to fill the inner voids of despair and loneliness with money and what money can buy. However, imagine if you were in that insatiable seeking mode of needing more and more and then suddenly had a perspective shift. One that reminded you of the actual necessities of life that reconfigured your priorities instantaneously.
REFLECTION
I invite you to reflect on this with me. Perhaps bring your attention to one thing that is troublesome to you. Or focus on a nagging feeling that follows you throughout life. Now ask yourself, is there any other way to look at this? Is there something you haven’t been seeing or maybe have even been avoiding? What if there was a new context hiding underneath the status quo of repetitive and mechanical thoughts that have consumed your unconscious around this particular realm of mind?
Now I am not saying that this is a magic pill and that some simple reframing will solve all of your troubles. What I am encouraging is some spaciousness of mind. It is within our human condition to fixate on the negative, the problems, and the pain, especially when immersed in it. For example, when we are sick with the flu life seems duller, bleak, less fun, and negativity or irritation has more of our attention. Maybe nothing else in life has changed except a dark cloud of feeling unwell is now hanging over head and the world appears different. Nothing seems right anymore. Have you ever had this woeful experience?
THE PROCESS OF MIND
I am so deeply curious about the process of mind that we navigate on a moment-to-moment basis. I understand it isn’t so popular to bring total awareness to our every action, behavior, thought process, gesture, emotion, attitude, etc. But I don’t understand why not? I mean, not really. Sure, there are distractions in every direction and most of them can appear to be more entertaining than self-observation. And yet, when I settle into witnessing myself and engage in the rigorous inner planes of my existence, life takes on a completely new meaning for me. I am brought into a new world yet discovered, the elements of adventure are ignited, I’m filled with a revitalization for life and I remember I am not alone. All of this builds a renewed context for why I am here in the first place.
New meaning is found through new perspectives. Every new understanding I have comes through seeing something I haven’t seen before. With more and more of this occurring, I realize I am in a continuous unfurling of new possibilities. New reflections, new insights…a new mind begins to form from within the old one. It feels as if new life is breaking out of a cocoon and the sloughing of the outer skin occurs with each reverent “aha”.
Also to note, new life has new skin and this skin can feel so deeply vulnerable to the touch. Inside this process, I am learning to have more compassion for myself and apply patience to rest and let the new self become. I’ve been wrestling inside my own chrysalis for what feels like a year and am starting to find a semblance of peace in slowing down. Maybe it is the calm before the storm? Or some kind of gelling is taking place and the growth is more dense, kind of like building marrow that forms bones. This is exciting on one level and kind of like watching a tree grow on another, still amazing but…sloooooooooow.
No matter where you are in your personal growth journey, I admire you for the attention you are giving to yourself. The small and incremental gestures towards enhancing our life to therefore better the lives of others is a priceless gift to all. Thank you for taking the time to journey with me too and allow me to share the uncomfortable and messy death and rebirth cycles of transformation with you. It is an honor and I honor you. You are the royalty, the majesty…you are the King and the Queen. Perspective awaits you…
