What Does This Moment Say to You?

It’s a mixed bag baby, it’s a mixed bag. Politics have become mere entertainment, resembling a badly written horror flick that doesn’t end well and yet hope does exist in the hearts of many people I know, including my own. Perhaps beyond hope there is a subtle hum from the most High, a resonance of faith that induces love to spread amongst ourselves as a lasting antidote to the current disasters we are facing.

What is the Source of Your Energy?

As the summer sun kisses the skin and encourages water-drenched days, the alchemy of water and light infuse the inner garden of mitochondria within my cells. Could it be true that each one of us has a set amount of energy for the span of our life and when we run out, we die? Some believe this and that the extent to which we can live in full vitality is to the extent in which we preserve and collaborate with our personal source of energy.

Why Is Your Jaw Dropped?

Anyone else out there feeling like you are growing and churning from the inside out? And although painful, there is some sweetness knowing that it is for the benefit of your future and all of your relations? Me too. Something around these current moon cycles has left a lasting impression upon my psyche in a way I haven’t experienced in many years if ever, truly.

Today’s full moon in Aquarius continues to fortify the unpredictability of the current cosmic mirror. Both Venus and Mars are in opposition to this fullness providing deep inner tugs onto our moods, temper and relationships. Pluto is in the mix, quincunx to the Sun/Venus and the light reflected by this potent moon, asking us to reconcile what is lurking under our friendships and intimate relationships.. This dynamic brings forth the complexities that have been brewing below the surface seeking karmic resolution. Ultimately the challenge is to look within ourselves, assess our own projections onto others, and notice what we notice at a time when the energy is so expansive and outwardly dominate.

What Happened Next?

I sat down to breathe, closed my eyes and went in

Where was the earth and where did it begin?

My body convulsed as I birthed a lion cub

Without time as a threshold, I blinked, it grew up

The Lion devoured me in one shocking fell swoop

I became nothing, re-formed, my belly moving like soup

I heaved and I birthed, a second lion cub son

Another mouth, so fierce, teeth around me…I was done

I opened my eyes and I floated with grace

A deep topaz blue, a high mountain lake…

What Was That?

In light of the astrology over the past months, we have now arrived at a moment of pause…in other words a threshold. While we have collectively entered into a sphere of revolution with the cosmic dance between Pluto and Saturn conjoining this past spring, every conversation, relationship, world event, horrific tweet, happening, breakup, or coming together has played a key role in the unfolding of what is to come.

When Do You Doubt Yourself?

In moments of challenge, when what seemed like a yes is then presented as no or when the rug gets pulled from underneath me, I go inward seeking resolve. Often, I first encounter the fleeting ‘ok, I’m alright, stay optimistic…this too shall pass’. I venture deeper and a flurry of emotions resembling a thousand bees buzz through me, disorient me momentarily and bring forth subtle anxiety that increasingly builds. Chocolate? A friend’s voice? ‘God, are you there? It’s me, Ciela.’

Is it Enough?

When in observation of the current world stage, courageously keeping my eyes open to the multiplying daily atrocities that currently plague our humanity, I ask myself – when is enough, enough? The human experience is no virgin to the full spectrum of love and hate, yet with the confluence of technological advancements to proliferate propaganda with such ease, are we now simply clearer of what has always been slurping under the surface? Is this the shadow in action? I would say, yes, absolutely and we have seen it again and again…but right now feels different. Why?.

What Are You Grateful For?

I’m sitting on a cozy cloud-like denim couch in a northern California farmhouse with a precious Jack Russel named Amor nestled as close to me as he can get. I couldn’t be in a better seat to answer this question and I am surrounded by the paradox of the bustling nature of a working farm as well as the deep peace that those who live here exude from their hearts.

How Do You Surrender?

Honestly, not very easily. I was born on the day of the heavyweight. I share this day with Mohammad Ali and others who definitely emulate a fighting spirit. Access to an inner strength that fights on in endurance fortifying circumstances and the insatiable cultivation of courage has been invaluable in moments of life. However, the rugged force needed at times to persevere in harsh psychological, emotional, physical or spiritual tests has its limits, even within those same encounters.

Do You Believe in Miracles?

Hasn’t this question been asked in songs, hallmark cards, on Shakedown Street and in strange psychic parlors throughout time? I raise my hand excitedly as if I can’t withstand shouting the answer out loud. YES! I believe in the magic that is exposed through the miracles of life. Some days are more radiant than others and yet, each day offers a healthy dose if only I am open to it. It is mostly the animals, predator birds and the fecund nature where I live that reminds me on a daily basis.

What is the Mirror of Compassion?

The new moon in Gemini has brought forth gifts of new thought, curious inner dialogue and countless ways to see ourselves in the mirror of others.

How many of us are feeling deep aches running through the center of our bones? A longing for a new future perhaps? An insatiable desire to connect with that which is greater? How about grieving a loss of sorts? Of a loved one or a time past?

New York or LA?

New York, obviously. There is nothing like waking up in a cocoon of a studio to meditate while life begins to pulse outside; the buzz can be felt from walls within walls. A new day and the organized chaos consumes every part of the whole. Energy. Aliveness. Possibility…

Are You a Mother?

Not in any traditional sense, no. When people ask me if I want to have children, I’ve always had the same answer… “God Willing”.  I am not compelled to have kids. I don’t feel the need to be a mother to fulfill any sort of destiny and I don’t have the deep-rooted longing that I witness in many of my sisters. Throughout different chapters of my life I have experienced the role of Mother. I’ve led communities and sat in the seat of a matriarch. I have spent endless hours upon hours taking care of students, their families, and friends as if they were my very own. Maternal instincts come naturally to me and I have more love to give than I even know.

Gravity or Levity?

A new moon in Taurus. Thank God. An opportunity to embrace the pull towards Mother Nature and release the stress and tension of the recent weeks into her soil. Within the act of surrender there is freedom and in that freedom, there is light.

It has often been discussed that if one is only seeking the light, they will miss the very roots of their personal cosmic lesson. As above so below, we need to be grounded in order to reach for the heights. This principle is viscerally clear in the practice of yoga which requires our body to emulate that of a tree, sourcing power, nourishment and strength from that which we touch our feet in order to expand into the ethers beyond our grasp.

Are You Willing to Give it Your All?

First response, yes, 100%. Second thought, what is the it? One thing I am currently learning is that if I am to set my heart on fire and then walk through it, I might as well bring all of me to enjoy the heat. There is no half-ness about life if I truly want to live it fully. Thus, I am brought before my own paradox and it looks like this…

What Does Holy Week Mean to You?

An epic question for epic times. My experience of this time of year has transformed dramatically from my youth and continues to shapeshift as I traverse my own understanding of what “Holy” means. When I was young it meant scavenging for Easter eggs, chocolate and flowers. It was a time when my family would come together, mostly for brunch since they weren’t religious, and share quality time together.

Why Do I Project Onto You?

Well, we all do this actually. Can you see the me in you and can I see the you in me? Maybe that is the better question. I’ve been reflecting on the deep stretches of time and space that take us further into the landscape of our relationships; the good ones, the hard ones, the everything-in-between ones. My beyond blood family has always taught me that relationship is a path of awakening and recently I’ve had more personal insights revealed through the mirror of other people in my life…my favorite teachers.
