Why Now?

Q: Why Now?

A: After a seemingly endless period of illusory timelessness called ‘lockdown’, let’s pose the question of why to this full moon in Scorpio. Why are you asking us to dredge up our unconscious desires? Why are you exposing our private longings or long-kept secrets? Why are you the brightest light in recent months while still asking us to go deeper into our psyche than we may want to at this time. Can’t you sense the collective exhaustion?

Perhaps speaking to the moon directly, anthropomorphizing our process through inquiry toward what used to be an earth herself (moons are skeletons of planets), will provide more answers than we can imagine. Look to this moon as a mirror of truth and truth is what you shall find, ready or not.

This super full moon essentially reflects the brilliant sun of Taurus from across the cosmos which then illuminates the shadow of Scorpio. It is beneficial to note that not all oppositions are contrary and we can often find collaboration in the medicine of astrology for a greater purpose, especially within the sun/moon opposition during the fullness of the moon cycle. And furthermore, Scorpio is no stranger to the realm of shadow! This moon is powerful, deeply inviting for inner work, and beckons us into the unseen realm of our psyche with a lot of the Taurian love and nurturance to grace the experience of a deeper dive.

To say this is a lighter moon than we have seen in the past two months is paradoxical as we wouldn’t generally call a Scorpio full moon ‘light’...however, this does give us perspective on where we have traveled as a collective in recent times. This moon also marks the culmination of the last 6-month cycle that began in November 2019. What has been churned up for you in these past six months?

Welcome the brilliance, the alluring call to go in, and work with the vibrancy of this moon to see further than you have seen before in the dark. There are gorgeous aspects including a trine from Neptune that adds a divine sparkle of a spiritual nature indicating the more willing we are to presence our true selves, the stronger the blessing will be. Imagine a star-filled night; there is something about this particular ‘night’ that is inviting even though the content exposed can be painful.

Neptune is familiar with our unconscious desires and if we are not vigilant and skillful, we can fall prey to their addictive nature. The harmonious aspect to Neptune from this moon is compassionate, allowing us to see some of these qualities before they become blind actions, which can be a hard pill to swallow yet is supportive for our inner work. Better to learn with foresight than in retrospect if we can, especially in the arena of addiction.

Shame, guilt, oppression, stifled expression, etc. are all coming up for review. We are being unearthed, not only in the external world which is so obvious now but from deep inside of us as well. Scorpio deep if you know what I mean. Whatever secrets have been lodged inside of your heart or within the deep crevasses of your mind, be prepared for the internal impulse to see/speak/or feel your truth depending on where Scorpio is in your chart. Once known, we cannot unknow and the clear path is one of healing and compassion.

With the Sun conjunct Mercury, we will both be inspired and thoughtful as well as feeling the opposition of Mercury to this moon. While the cosmic truth serum is stirred, expect the need to be truly deliberate with your words or else the opportunity to rectify what is both said and unsaid will present itself. Mercury in sextile to Neptune brings forth our intuitive abilities, our dreaminess and activates clairvoyance from the inner mind.

Rather than ask ‘Why Now?’ perhaps the true question is ‘Why Not?’ Has there ever been a better time to bring up what is lurking within the shadow of our souls? If we don’t illuminate that which dwells in our unconscious mind, then we remain the unconscious prisoner we’ve always been. I know many of us are tired, either of being inside or working harder than we ever have and yet the invitation of this moon doesn’t seem to mind. There is no later when it comes to a Scorpio full moon, in fact, there is always only Now.

“The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality.”

~ Dante Alighieri
