What if…?
Q: What if…?
A: Your heart is heavy. Not because you saw another black man killed by police... but because that man was your brother or husband. What if you woke up to learn that your son had been murdered? What if you couldn’t breathe because you were being held under a policeman’s knee without mercy? Is it a crime to be black? No. Is it a crime to be racist? Yes. Why are we living in a camera obscura reality where justice is ignored and bigotry is allowed?
What if there is no food to feed your children? What if you can’t sleep at night because your stomach hurts of hunger? What if you lost the job your family depends on, the one that pays your rent month to month, and your landlord says it is time to go and nothing can be done?
What if your mother is on a ventilator and you cannot say goodbye? What if she dies in the night, alone and away from her family? What if there are bodies piling up in the hallways of the hospitals, and you personally know of 9 people close to you who have died in the past few weeks? There is no control and you feel you are living a nightmare.
What if children aren’t allowed to play together in school? No more toys, games, recess, or freedom. Six feet apart, looking straight ahead…They are not allowed to touch each other, God forbid they hug one another. Mental health and the lack thereof is the next unacknowledged global pandemic. Social skills are destroyed, trust is a thing of the past. The future looks bleak and hellish for those who follow orders.
What if the President of the United States rules like a dictator with only his best interest at hand? What if he is a democrat…? There is no freedom in the extremes of this party or that party. Each is corrupt beyond the capacity for renewal. Everyone feels ‘right’ and blames the ‘other’. Current politics are dead and need to be revived from a new seed.
What if a new seed is born? Ripe with possibility for a brilliant future. Out of the rubble, a sprout shoots into the sunlight, reflecting new growth, a new mind. This mind is beyond duality, inclusive rather than exclusive and is an invitation that pulses like a heartbeat from within. Revitalization and remembrance seep into the cells of the collective, informing a new world for those who are willing to make the choice. An internal rebellion ignites, and the global inhale of inner work precedes an exhale of surrender into our truth.
What if children continue to laugh and play? What if they are revered as our teachers and we listen to the wisdom of their joy and ritual? Mornings are for quiet, playful snuggles. We nourish and prepare ourselves for a whole new day of life. We eat for nourishment and energy. Our minds are open to receive knowledge and we learn how to share with others. We co-create and the curriculum of life feels like an Art class. We express through colors and textures, paints, and clay. We run free on the earth and honor our mothers while we giggle and play more. Time to rest when our bodies are tired and we nap. We learn more, nourish our bodies, and eventually bathe before bed. We give thanks and read inspiring books before we sleep.
What if health care is civilized? We honor human lives as we honor our own. Every being is of equal value. We create systems that support our brothers and sisters. We live in love and distinguish our ‘fears’ of those across borders. We get out of our own way and our obsession with power in order to be of service and help those in need. We listen and take preventative measures. We lead by example. When in a crisis, there are people to hold us and reassure us that this will pass. No one is alone.
What if healthy food is a human right? Eating toxins is a thing of the past. Fresh food is in fashion. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, proteins, and ferments replace preservatives, concentrates, neurotoxins, and mass-produced everything. Everyone has food to eat. We grow our food, we trade our food, we ensure our communities are abundant and thriving. We work together and live in harmony with the seasons of life. We shift our world from an unsustainable pace to one that is supportive and possible. Friendship and families hold one another. We heal our wounds, we catch each other when we fall.
What if our hearts are full? We are one human race. We are immersed in our inner knowing living our truths. Each of us has a role in society. We have rectified our past. We have forgiven each other. There are those who protect and maintain order. They are the compassionate ones. They are wise, strong, and of integrity. They remind us of who we want to be as they lead by example. Every shade of skin is celebrated as part of the whole of humanity. We are each a pigment of light, a scale on the skin of the world, a pulse within the collective heartbeat. We are alive! We are well! All lives matter! Everything is possible!
Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.
~ Benjamin Franklin
