Crisis or Chrysalis?

Q: Crisis or Chrysalis?

A: Let’s pause, take a deep breath, and observe the moment. Can I get to an objective perspective while immersed in such a profoundly uncomfortable subjective experience? What is this all about? And where is my power at this moment? Regardless of what the current crisis is, I’ve been through enough of these to understand that there is something for me to learn here. This perceived moment of immense challenge will inevitably fortify me into a new level of resilience and I can trust that I am letting go of what I no longer need, making room for more truth on the other side.

Regardless of what it (crisis) is, my power is found in remembering who I am and who I belong to in a greater sense of belonging. Do I belong to my fears? Self-doubts? Insecurities? I do only if I allow myself to be taken into their vice grip while they whisper decades-old stories of false songs on repeat, working me to an edge. Do I belong to my Being? Yes, if I can source my truth, bring awareness to my breath, and rest into the wellspring of faith that is strengthened every time I orient myself within.

In a recent conversation with a dear sister, who is also an incredibly talented astrologer, we were pouring over our shared experience of the Uranus opposition, otherwise known as the “mid-life crisis”. Between the ages of 40-42, each one of us will fatefully experience this cosmic transit of Uranus approaching the exact opposition of our natal Uranus. The energy is heightened, can be erratic, impulsive toward a desire for change, and seeks freedom against restraint. The need for change will directly mirror your current “coordinates” depending on where you find yourself on the spectrum of living your truth to living your “should’s”.

For many, this transit is a classic demarcation between chapters of life. The perspective can be fresh, motivating, carrying experience, and perhaps a yearning to truly live into the reality which until now lived only as dreams. However, a warning: Beware of the swirls and eddies of entrapment into the distracting concerns of aging, comparison, and self-doubt that can make the old, and painful, high school dramas look like child’s play.

Even if you are not crossing over this powerfully transformative threshold (you either have or will), we are collectively living the Uranus transit through Taurus until April 2026. We can thank this rebellious planet for the radical upheaval within the realms of finance, home and where we live, how and what we eat, bringing our attention to climate chaos, and our relationship to the environment as humanity. The last time Uranus was in Taurus in the 1930’s we found ourselves in the midst of the Great Depression. And here we are again, seeking to uncover the false notions of success and inflation for something real and substantial. We find ourselves facing revolution through crisis.

crisis | ˈkrʌɪsɪs | noun (plural crises | ˈkrʌɪsiːz | )

a time of intense difficulty or danger: the current economic crisis | [mass noun] :  democracy was in crisis. a time when a difficult or important decision must be made: [as modifier] :  the situation of white supremacy has reached crisis pointthe turning point of a disease when an important change takes place, indicating either recovery or death.

Yes, we are in crisis and…Whether we are watching the news or avoiding it altogether, no one can deny that the days of “comfortable” ignorance are over. Hallelujah. There are too many of us in the Night’s Watch of our collective to allow complacency and supremacy to reign with any sort of ease. While Greta Thunberg is calling all of Earth’s devotees to rise up, speak up, and take responsibility for our collective mess, a pandemic is forcing a massive reset to our societal habits around work, exchange of money, and how we source our food. The silver lining exists between the layers of crisis.

Meanwhile, Saturn and Pluto are at the helm in Capricorn once again, having planted the seed of our destiny on the full moon lunar eclipse January 10th; the fruits of this metamorphosis promise to flourish throughout this entire decade and beyond. It is here, under the powerful and devastatingly transformative love of Pluto that the crisis becomes the chrysalis. In juxtaposition: Crisis - The turning point of a disease when an important change takes place, indicating either recovery or death. Chrysalis - a transitional state: she emerged from the mid-life chrysalis a new woman.

What dis-ease are we healing? Go within. Look around. All of it. May we find ease in our hearts as we individually reconcile with our participation in the false in order to rise up in revolution with dignity and true empowerment. May we lean into the current crisis with surrender, dissolving the old rigid notions of who we have been and embrace the supernatural chrysalis of these times.
